In the installation Hidden Beauty, Pat De Caro relates charcoal “portraits” with photography that she developed during the COVID pandemic lockdown when we had restricted movement. With relative isolation we relied on technology and memory for our daily experiences. Each composition takes visitors through the artist's own journey in life, and is grounded in a particular time and place layered in implied meaning. The shift between drawing and photography creates an illusion between reality and time, and memory mediates somewhere in between. For the exhibit at the Mini Mart City Park Gallery, we mounted the works in a narrative grid that surrounds the viewer with temporal association; the experience becomes a meditation on separation, emotional connection, and dislocation.
